The Gustavus Adolphus College football team opened its 2025 season with a commanding 29-3 victory over Central University, establishing a strong early presence in the Midwest Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
A Dominant Start
Quarterback Dylan Blount orchestrated the offense, throwing for 276 yards and two touchdowns, while the team amassed 22 first downs and a 276-yard passing performance that underscored its offensive firepower.
On defense, senior Drew Kretlow contributed 12 tackles for loss and Torrin Smith added 19 negative yards, helping the Gusties limit Central to a mere three points and force two turnovers on downs.
The win also marked the return of offensive coordinator Charlie Cosgrove, who had previously served at Division II Winona State, as he helped design the balanced attack that produced five sacks and a diversified scoring pattern.
Additional contributors included Jordan Wold, who opened the scoring with a touchdown, Liam Frommelt, whose punt return set up a 15-0 lead, and Alex Gross, who added two scores, including a 10-yard rush in the second half.
With the win improving their record to 1-0 in conference play, the Gusties are slated to travel to face No. 2 Bethel on September 19 in the next MIAC showdown.
