Alabama basketball announced two pivotal staff changes on Tuesday, rehiring Alex Accetta as director of program relations and promoting Josh Pierre to director of player development.
Return of a Familiar Face
Accetta, who previously served as director of basketball operations for the Crimson Tide before spending four seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, returns with a résumé that includes overseeing travel, recruiting visits, game logistics and VIP hospitality for the NBA franchise.
Pierre, who has led the program’s operations for the past four years, steps into the player development role after a tenure that produced 109 victories, 55 of them in SEC play, and a run to the NCAA Final Four in the 2023‑24 season.
The Crimson Tide have also enjoyed four consecutive Sweet 16 appearances since Pierre’s promotion, a testament to his influence on player growth, with notable alumni such as Labaron Philon Jr., Brandon Miller, Mark Sears and Noah Clowney emerging under coach Nate Oats.
Nate Oats lauded Pierre’s leadership, noting that he ‘continues to raise the bar for players and the program,’ while Shane Lyons emphasized Accetta’s proven track record in both collegiate and professional basketball operations.
Together, the appointments signal Alabama’s intent to fortify its competitive edge as the program looks to build on recent successes and pursue deeper runs in the NCAA tournament.
