Indiana University opened its season with a commanding 45‑16 victory over North Texas, as quarterback Josh Hoover delivered a standout debut that featured four touchdown passes and a flawless 13‑of‑16 passing performance.
A Promising Debut
Hoover completed 13 of 16 attempts for 231 yards, throwing four touchdowns and contributing to Indiana’s seven scores in the first hour of play, while the Hoosiers’ offense dominated despite being outgunned in possession time by nearly 15 minutes.
The opening drive produced a float pass to Nick Marsh for the first score, and Hoover later connected with Charlie Becker for two touchdowns, including a 35‑yard strike in the second half and a 42‑yard touchdown to Davion Chandler early in the fourth quarter, sealing the win.
Head coach Curt Cignetti praised Hoover’s performance, noting that the quarterback earned the respect of his teammates, while Hoover acknowledged that one throw to Marsh was not ideal and that there is room for improvement as the season progresses.
Indiana will now turn its attention to the Howard Bison, slated to meet on Saturday, September 12, with kickoff at noon Eastern on the Big Ten Network, aiming to build on the explosive start.
