On October 29, the University of Toledo will host its annual Rocket Roundball Social, a high‑profile gathering that brings together alumni, donors, and local business leaders to raise funds for the Toledo Men’s Basketball Program. The event is organized under the auspices of University President Dr. James Holloway and will feature a keynote address by Oakland University’s head men’s basketball coach, Greg Kampe.
Greg Kampe, entering his 43rd season as a Division I men’s basketball coach, is the longest‑tenured leader in the NCAA and boasts 731 career victories, placing him ninth among active coaches. His journey began as a graduate assistant at Toledo before he spent five years under Bob Nichols, establishing a deep connection to the region and a reputation for developing competitive programs.
Event Tradition and Fundraising Goals
The Rocket Roundball Social has become a staple of Toledo’s basketball calendar, offering attendees the chance to meet program leaders, sample cuisine from the city’s top restaurants, and participate in a live auction that includes exclusive experiences such as a ‘Roadtrip with the Rockets’ for games against Michigan State and Michigan.
Tickets are available both as corporate tables for ten and as individual admissions, with payments accepted via cash, credit card, or check, ensuring flexibility for all supporters. The proceeds from the evening are earmarked for enhancements to the Toledo Men’s Basketball Program, including facility upgrades, recruiting initiatives, and academic support for student‑athletes.
Beyond the financial contribution, the gathering underscores the broader community commitment to collegiate athletics, reinforcing the link between the university, its alumni network, and the local business sector. As Kampe takes the podium, his decades of experience and sustained success serve as a testament to the enduring impact of strong leadership on and off the court.
