Shiann Darkangelo Returns Home, Bringing Championship Experience to PWHL Detroit

The Brighton native reflects on her Walter Cup triumph with Montreal Victorie and looks ahead to launching the league’s inaugural season in Detroit.

Shiann Darkangelo, a three‑year veteran of the Professional Women’s Hockey League and a native of Brighton, Michigan, has returned to her hometown after a triumphant 2025‑26 season with the Montreal Victorie, where she helped secure the Walter Cup.

Championship Roots

During the regular season she recorded eight points—four goals and four assists—in 30 games, while also leading the Victorie in faceoff wins. In the postseason she added a goal in nine appearances, a performance that underscored her versatility and competitive edge.

Darkangelo repeatedly emphasized that comradery and teamwork were the cornerstones of Montreal’s championship run. She described the city as a ‘special place in her heart,’ highlighting how the collective spirit there propelled the team to success.

The league’s newest franchise, PWHL Detroit, is slated to begin its inaugural season this fall 2026, with training camp scheduled for November 18, 2026, after the World Championships Gold Medal Game in Denmark. The year‑one jerseys will prominently display ‘DETROIT,’ while the design for the second season remains undecided.

Back in Brighton and soon in Detroit, Darkangelo is channeling her experience into mentorship, aiming to grow youth hockey participation and give back to the community that shaped her career.
