Sophie Mooldijk, the Longwood University field hockey goalkeeper, posted a career-high 21 saves in a Division I contest that ended in a 6-0 defeat to Richmond at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
A Record-Breaking Night
The Lancers faced an early onslaught, with Richmond striking first at 6:29 when Clara Larripa found the net, and Mooldijk already making eight stops before the break, showcasing her reflexes under pressure.
Richmond continued to pile on the pressure, extending the lead after Malena Magnano scored five minutes following the second Richmond goal, pushing the margin to 3-0, and later added another tally at 48:33 before Valen Luna Parratore contributed a goal in the 52nd minute.
Despite the six-goal margin, Mooldijk’s 21 saves stood as the highest tally recorded by any Division I goalkeeper this season, underscoring her resilience and shot-stopping prowess.
The Lancers will look to rebound when they travel to face Davidson on September 11 at 5 p.m., a match that could provide a crucial confidence boost after the tough loss.
