A Standout Weekend for the Monarchs
Will Johnson’s recent surge has put him at the center of Old Dominion’s latest breakthrough, earning the senior infielder Sun Belt Player of the Week honors.
In a three-game series against No. 8 Coastal Carolina, he batted .643, smashing a home run, adding two doubles and posting a 1.000 slugging percentage while scoring five runs and driving in four RBIs.
The performance helped the Monarchs break the Chanticleers’ 16-game home winning streak, a turning point that reshaped the Sun Belt standings and left the team tied for seventh place.
Consequently, Old Dominion moved from 118th to 95th in the RPI rankings, underscoring the impact of the series win on the program’s national perception.
The Monarchs will now turn their attention to a three-game showdown with James Madison to close out the regular season, a series that could further influence postseason positioning.
