Ryan Huber has been named the new head coach of the Columbia State Chargers baseball program, taking the reins of a team that finished the 2025–2026 season with a 33–19 record and a second‑place finish in the TCCAA Region 7 Tournament.
A Promising Leadership Transition
Huber’s résumé reads like a masterclass in collegiate baseball development. After earning an associate of science degree from Motlow State Community College in 2012, he played for Freed‑Hardeman University’s Lions before concluding his playing career at Bethel University in 2014. He then completed a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in health in 2015, laying a scholarly foundation for his coaching career.
His coaching journey began with stints as an assistant at the University of Memphis, where he worked across the infield and catching positions, before moving to Middle Tennessee State University. At MTSU he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, overseeing defensive player development and coaching first base, experiences that have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of both strategy and talent acquisition.
From 2017 to 2018, Huber expanded his baseball expertise as an associate scout for the St. Louis Cardinals, deepening his network of contacts that will now benefit Columbia State. Athletic director Katie Willingham praised his energy, extensive connections, and proven ability to develop student‑athletes, noting that his familiarity with Columbia State alumni will strengthen relationships and support for the program.
Huber thanked President Smith and AD Willingham for the opportunity, expressing enthusiasm for continuing the Chargers’ winning tradition. With his blend of playing experience, coaching acumen, and scouting insight, he aims to build on the program’s recent success and guide the Chargers to new heights in the coming seasons.
