The Kansas State High School Activities Association has confirmed that the 2028 state basketball tournament’s semifinals and championship games will be held exclusively in the Wichita metropolitan area, marking the first such consolidation of championship sites in the state since 1945.

The tournament’s footprint will feature Koch Arena, Heartland Federal Credit Union Arena and the Garvey Center, while the Hutchinson Sports Arena will host the Class 2A competitions. The remaining classifications will be assigned to specific venues in the coming weeks, ensuring a balanced distribution of games across the region.
Bill Faflick, executive director of the KSHSAA, emphasized that the proximity of the venues allows supporters to follow multiple teams in a single outing, a logistical advantage that was a decisive factor in the member schools’ request for consolidation.
Josh Howell, director of Visit Wichita, welcomed the decision, stating that the city is eager to showcase its facilities and hospitality to teams, coaches and fans from across Kansas, reinforcing the region’s reputation as a premier sports destination.
