The Southern Conference has named its weekly Football Players of the Week, honoring standout performances that defined last weekend’s contests across the league. Gavin Garcia of The Citadel earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after a 137‑yard rushing effort on 21 carries, which included three touchdowns in a thrilling 43‑41 overtime victory over Charlotte. His decisive 25‑yard score in overtime sealed the win and underscored his role as the driving force behind the team’s comeback.
Omari Philyaw, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, was recognized as Defensive Player of the Week for his contributions to Tennessee Tech’s 24‑9 road win over Chattanooga. Philyaw recorded seven tackles and intercepted a pass, playing a pivotal part in stifling the Mocs’ offense and securing the victory.
Cillian Bonner of Wofford took home Special Teams Player of the Week accolades after a commanding performance in a 17‑13 win over Gardner‑Webb. The Irish native punted three times, with each effort landing inside the opponent’s five‑yard line, including a 56‑yard punt that helped shift field position in Wofford’s favor.
In addition to individual honors, The Citadel was named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week, celebrating its historic first Southern Conference win over an FBS opponent since 2021.
