Joe Bachie, the former Michigan State University linebacker who earned All‑Big Ten honors three times during his college career, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
Over the past few seasons he has appeared on the rosters of the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts, primarily contributing on special teams and providing depth at linebacker.
After being cut earlier in the year, Bachie was re‑signed by the Detroit Lions on September 5, earning a spot on the team’s 53‑man active roster.
Special Teams Impact Expected
Lions head coach Dan Campbell praised Bachie during training camp, highlighting his versatility and work ethic as key factors in the decision to keep him on the roster.
Bachie is expected to focus on special‑teams duties while also serving as a reserve linebacker, adding depth and experience to the Lions’ defensive unit as the season progresses.
The signing, which took place just after Labor Day, reflects the ongoing competition for roster spots in the NFL, where players on the fringe must continually demonstrate their value.
