Aari McDonald, the celebrated Arizona women’s basketball standout, has officially signed with the Minnesota Lynx, marking her return to the WNBA after a 2025 season with the Indiana Fever and a brief stint with the Los Angeles Sparks.
A New Chapter in Minnesota
Born in Fresno, California, McDonald entered the league as the third overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft, a record for the state’s program, and quickly earned a place on the Atlanta Dream’s rookie roster, where she was honored as the WNBA All‑Rookie Team member.
Over the course of 136 career appearances she has averaged 8.8 points, 3.1 assists, 2.0 rebounds and a steal per game, while her accolades include Pac‑12 Player of the Year, back‑to‑back Defensive Player of the Year honors and the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, underscoring her impact on both ends of the floor.
At the University of Arizona she propelled the Wildcats to their first Final Four appearance and a national championship game in 2021, and finished her collegiate career with 2,041 points in 93 games, earning the program’s first First‑Team All‑American nod.
The 2025 season with Indiana was cut short in August when a right foot injury sidelined her, yet she still posted a solid line of 9.8 points, 4.7 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game before the setback.
Her journey through Atlanta, Los Angeles and Indiana reflects a résumé that blends high‑level competition with consistent production, positioning her as a valuable veteran presence for the Lynx as they aim to build on recent momentum.
