Clemson Reinstates Defensive Tackle Vic Burley Ahead of ACC Opener

Coach Dabo Swinney confirms the senior lineman’s return after a guilty plea and suspension, positioning him for the season’s pivotal matchup.

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney announced that senior defensive tackle Vic Burley has been reinstated from an indefinite suspension following his guilty plea to public disorderly conduct, clearing the way for the player’s return to the roster.

Coach Swinney’s Decision

The suspension stemmed from an August 22 arrest in which Burley was found asleep in his vehicle, an incident that led to his indefinite removal from the team and a subsequent guilty plea entered two weeks earlier.

Burley publicly apologized, acknowledging the trust Clemson placed in him and pledging to rebuild that confidence through accountability and consistent performance on and off the field.

While he will miss the upcoming contest against Georgia Southern, Burley is slated to make his season debut in the ACC opener against North Carolina on September 19, providing a boost to the Tigers’ defensive line as they prepare for the 2024 campaign.

In his first three seasons, Burley recorded 24 tackles, half a tackle for loss and a single pass breakup across 267 defensive snaps in 21 games, and his experience is expected to fortify a Clemson defense that aims to contend for the ACC title.
