The Tufts University field hockey program is poised to protect its 2024 NCAA championship as it prepares to launch the 2025 campaign, opening its season at home against Trinity College on September 5.
Season Highlights
Finishing the year with a 19‑3 overall record and a 9‑1 mark in the NESCAC, the Jumbos combined a potent offense with a stingy defense that yielded only 22 goals, highlighted by goalkeeper Lydia Eastburn’s 66 saves, while eight new teammates—including forwards, midfielders and a goalkeeper—added depth to the roster.
Individual brilliance was on display, with forward Hannah Biccard leading the attack at 17 goals and earning NFHCA Division III national player of the year honors, while Eleanor Helm contributed 13 goals. The quartet of Biccard, Claire Casey, Lydia Eastburn and Eleanor Luft also secured spots on the NFHCA Division III All‑American team.
The coaching staff’s excellence was recognized again, as head coach Tina Mattera was inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame and the entire staff was named National Staff of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Looking ahead, Tufts will test its mettle against top‑ranked NESCAC rivals such as Bates (No. 5), Middlebury (No. 7) and Babson College (No. 3), while the blend of seasoned veterans and fresh talent aims to sustain dominance in the conference.
