Valet Deception: Basketball Impersonator Steals $90,000 BMW in Savannah

A man posing as a pro athlete used a forged ticket to swipe a luxury vehicle, part of a series of thefts at a coastal hotel.

On August 14, a man who claimed to be a professional basketball player entered the valet area of the Hyatt Regency Savannah, presented a forged ticket and drove away in a $90,000 BMW that had been left by a hotel guest.

The vehicle was not the suspect’s own property; it was a dealership loaner that the guest had been using, a fact confirmed by hotel staff and later verified by police.

The same individual was also linked to the theft of a white 2025 Audi A5, which had been reported missing the day before and was later recovered in the hotel’s parking garage.

A Pattern of Valet Thefts

These incidents are part of a broader series of valet thefts that have plagued the Hyatt Regency earlier in August, including the disappearance of a Toyota C‑HR, suggesting a coordinated effort by the same perpetrator.

Savannah Police Department released surveillance images of the suspect, describing him as a man in his 20s or 30s, and urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
