The Democrat and Chronicle’s Section V Football Athlete of the Week poll, open from August 31 through September 6, lets readers vote for the standout player of the week.

Organized by the newspaper’s sports reporters, the poll draws nominees from Section V high‑school teams, with each athlete’s key statistics supplied to help voters make an informed choice, and anyone can submit additional nominations by emailing sports@democratandchronicle.com.

James Chase Avon rushed nine times for 164 yards and four touchdowns in a 52‑12 victory over Clyde‑Savannah, while Jude Christ LeRoy added two touchdowns and 96 yards in a 28‑24 win against East Rochester‑Gananda.

Terrell Cunningham Jr. threw six touchdown passes and also ran for a score in a dominant win at Edison, and Trent Englert led the defense with 13 solo tackles, including two for loss, in a victory over Red Jacket. Jesse Jablonsky recorded nine receptions for 122 yards and three touchdowns in a 44‑22 win over Brockport, and Jayden Jager rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns in a 36‑31 triumph over Greece Athena.

Brailon Johnson combined 205 passing yards with 152 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Matt Kosiorek completed all seven of his passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns, adding 61 rushing yards. George Mirras returned a punt for a touchdown in a 41‑20 win at Honeoye Falls‑Lima, and Jayden Nelson rushed for 185 yards and two scores in a 43‑21 victory over Gates Chili. Brody Pusateri threw five touchdown passes and added 78 rushing yards in a 44‑22 win over Brockport.

Voters must cast their ballots by 8 p.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced on the Democrat and Chronicle’s Instagram page on Friday.
