Ryan Howard, the younger brother of Big 12 champion quarterback Will Howard, made his first career start in Kansas State’s 71‑3 victory over Nicholls, stepping into the offensive line after All‑Big 12 left tackle John Pastore was sidelined.
Family Ties and Preparation
The promotion came unexpectedly during fall camp when Pastore’s injury forced the Wildcats to reshuffle their line, and Howard, who had not seen college football action in his first two seasons, was thrust into the starting rotation.
Offensive line coach Todd Klein voiced strong confidence in Howard’s preparation, work ethic and ability to adapt, noting that his consistent effort in practice had earned the trust of the staff.
Tight end Will Anciaux added that Howard’s steadiness, character and willingness to learn from mistakes have been evident, reinforcing the positive impression among his teammates.
Howard’s earliest memories of Kansas State date back to his brother’s official visit in 2019, a moment that cemented his deep personal connection to the program and the university community.
Rooted in his hometown of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Howard’s physical profile—broad shoulders and a thick chest—naturally steered him toward the tackle position, while his early struggles with throwing have since been addressed through focused work alongside his linemen.
Beyond the field, his family’s support network, including Will’s recent contribution to Ohio State’s national championship run, has been instrumental in his development, and his roommate John Pastore, also a teammate, adds a unique personal dimension to his transition into the starting lineup.
His communication and teamwork with the offensive line have been highlighted as promising signs for the Wildcats’ future performance, suggesting that Howard’s integration could bolster the team’s prospects moving forward.
