Emporia State University’s football program has climbed into the D2 Top 25, landing at No. 22 in the latest national poll after a 2‑0 start that has energized the campus and its fans.
Early Season Momentum
The Hornets opened the season with a 36‑30 road victory over Minot State, a tightly contested game that showcased their resilience, followed by a 21‑10 win against the Pittsburg Gorillas, marking the second straight year they have topped the Gorillas.
Those two triumphs highlighted a balanced attack and a defense that forced turnovers at crucial moments, allowing Emporia State to capitalize on scoring opportunities and maintain control throughout both contests.
Looking ahead, the team faces Michigan Tech, which is also ranked in the Top 25 at No. 23, a matchup that could test the Hornets’ rise and potentially propel them further up the rankings.
