Unrivaled Basketball Returns to Boston for Third Season, Filling WNBA Void

Governor Maura Healey and investor Linda Henry back the three‑on‑three league as it expands to Brooklyn and Philadelphia despite broadcast challenges

Unrivaled, the three‑on‑three women’s basketball league that showcases the league’s top WNBA players, is gearing up for its third season in Boston this January, with two Opening Night games scheduled for January 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic TD Garden.

Governor and Investor Fuel the League

Governor Maura Healey, a former Harvard women’s basketball captain, played a pivotal role in securing TD Garden for the games, leveraging her connections to bring the league back to the city after the Connecticut Sun’s relocation to Houston left a regional void.

Investor Linda Henry, chief executive of Globe, has backed the venture, enabling Unrivaled to launch a 10‑night tour that will move from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center to Philadelphia’s arena, venues that have already drawn sold‑out crowds and a record 21,490 fans at a late‑January doubleheader in Philadelphia.

While broadcast viewership for the 2026 championship fell 14% from the previous year and overall audience dropped 9%, the league is counting on the electric atmosphere of live play to attract new fans and convert them into lasting supporters.
