Vanderbilt University has confirmed that its football team will welcome the North Alabama Lions to FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, in the fall of 2030, reviving a rivalry that dates back to a 1959 encounter that ended 42‑7 in the Commodores’ favor.
A New Chapter in Vanderbilt’s Football Calendar
The upcoming contest will mark the second meeting between the two programs, following a dominant 1959 victory for Vanderbilt, and will serve as the Commodores’ inaugural non‑conference opponent in the 2030 season, underscoring a schedule that blends FCS and FBS opponents.
North Alabama, currently competing in the FCS United Athletic Conference, enters the 2026 season with a 1‑1 record, having defeated Samford before falling to Arkansas, and is slated to face eight FBS foes, including Vanderbilt, in the years ahead.
The Lions will also engage in a home‑and‑home series with UT Martin, beginning with a road game at UT Martin in September 2029 and concluding with a home matchup at FirstBank Stadium in September 2030, adding a layered narrative to their upcoming slate.
Fans and analysts alike view the arrangement as a compelling opportunity for both programs to test themselves against different levels of competition, promising heightened excitement and a fresh storyline for the college football landscape.
