Jazmin Gamble arrived in Los Angeles in 2013, a former athlete who found herself without a permanent home, sleeping in her car while she searched for a foothold in the city.
A Trailblazing Coach
Before turning to coaching, Gamble had pursued a professional football career, playing four seasons with the Los Angeles Legends of the Women’s National Football Conference and earning league MVP nomination in 2025.
In 2024, she took the helm at Hawthorne High School, becoming the first woman to coach high school tackle football in the United States, a milestone that attracted national attention.
The program, which had posted a 2‑8 record the previous year, started the season 1‑2, but Gamble’s emphasis on fundamentals and relentless work ethic began to turn the tide.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Gamble mentors young athletes, stressing perseverance and hard work, and she hopes her presence will pave the way for more women to enter coaching roles at all levels.
Her journey from car‑dwelling to the sideline was supported by her athletic training business and a steady human‑resources job, which together helped her rebuild her life after moving to Los Angeles.
