Lexie Hoobler, a sophomore at Highland Park High School, was named the Week 1 Player of the Week in flag football after a spectacular opening performance that showcased her range and impact on the field.
A Promising Start
Her stat line was eye‑catching: she scored 12 touchdowns, amassed 341 all‑purpose yards, recorded 17 flag pulls, and intercepted three passes, one of which she returned for a pick‑six. A 40‑yard punt return added another highlight to a performance that left coaches and teammates impressed.
What set Hoobler apart was her willingness to fill multiple roles. She operated as a quarterback, a wide receiver, a linebacker and a punt returner, demonstrating the versatility that has become her trademark since she transitioned from tackle football three or four years ago.
Beyond the numbers, Hoobler’s enthusiasm for the game shines through her dedication to teamwork and leadership. As a quarterback she enjoys guiding the offense and helping her teammates grow, while her gameday ritual of eating pasta before each contest reflects both her personal superstition and her desire to stay energized.
Growing up a Chicago Bears fan in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, Hoobler credits her cousins, who played tackle football in nearby Glenview, for sparking her early interest in the sport. That familial connection, combined with the supportive atmosphere of her current team, fuels her ambition to continue playing at the collegiate level and eventually represent the United States in national tournaments or even the Olympics.
Looking ahead, she is eager for the remainder of the season, looking forward to more competitive games, deeper bonds with her close‑knit teammates, and the celebration of senior night, all while maintaining her focus on academics and personal development.
