The University of Iowa Gophers men’s basketball program announced that Cade Tyson, a 6‑foot‑7 wing and last season’s leading scorer, will return for the 2026‑27 campaign.
Return of a Star Player
Tyson, who averaged 19.6 points per game in the previous season, saw his eligibility expire before the NCAA introduced the new five‑for‑five rule that grants an additional year of participation to athletes whose eligibility would otherwise be exhausted.
Now that the rule change has taken effect, Tyson has re‑enrolled in coursework and will be allowed to practice with the team while the coaching staff evaluates whether he can be cleared for competition.
Head coach Niko Medved said he is excited about Tyson’s comeback, noting that the forward adds both size and scoring depth to a roster that is still developing.
