Simon Edvinsson, a restricted free agent defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings, is frustrated by the lack of contract negotiations despite being less than two weeks from training camp.
Since Steve Yzerman was dismissed as general manager in July, Edvinsson has had no one within the organization to discuss his contract, leaving the situation in limbo.
Commitment to Detroit
Edvinsson has repeatedly said he loves Detroit and its fans, and he intends to attend the Red Wings’ training camp regardless of his contractual status.
Without a signed deal, he is responsible for additional insurance costs, a financial burden that has been highlighted by his agent.
His agent, J.P. Barry, is currently finalizing Edvinsson’s North American visa, adding another layer of administrative work to the already stalled negotiations.
Although other NHL clubs have expressed interest in an offer sheet, Edvinsson has made it clear he is not interested in leaving Detroit.
He has been training well and feels prepared for the upcoming season, underscoring his commitment to the Red Wings and the city.
