A Historic Double
Auburn High School's boys and girls soccer teams have etched a remarkable chapter in the school's athletic history by capturing the Class 7A state championships in the same season, a feat that has not been achieved by the program before.
The boys' side, anchored by senior goalkeeper Brody Cobine, finally broke through after years of narrow defeats, a victory that head coach Bill Ferguson described as the culmination of a resilient mindset and emerging leadership within the squad.
On the girls' side, sophomore midfielder Lula Hammer helped the team rebound from two earlier losses to the same opponent, securing their second state title in three seasons and marking their fourth straight championship match appearance.
Both championship runs were credited to an unusual level of chemistry, trust and perseverance that coaches said set this year's squads apart from previous groups.
The double triumph has sparked excitement across the Auburn community, with expectations that the momentum will carry forward into upcoming seasons, as the school looks to build on a culture of sustained excellence.
