Quinnipiac’s women’s ice hockey program marked a quarter‑century of achievement in 2026, capping the season with its second ECAC Championship and cementing its reputation as a benchmark for women’s sports in the Northeast.
A Quarter-Century of Progress
When the program first took the ice in 2001 as the Quinnipiac Braves in the ECAC Eastern Conference, it struggled to find footing, posting winless records in each of its opening eight seasons.
The turning point arrived in 2016 when Cass Turner took the helm, quickly reshaping the roster and guiding the Bobcats to a 30‑3‑5 mark that included their first conference title.
Two years later, in 2022, the team earned its third NCAA Tournament berth, shutting out Syracuse 4‑0 in a decisive opening round victory that underscored the program’s rapid ascent.
The 2025‑26 campaign began with a flawless 9‑0 start in conference play, highlighted by Kahlen Lamarche’s explosive 11‑goal outing that propelled Quinnipiac to the top of the standings.
In March 2026, the Bobcats captured their second ECAC Championship, defeating Yale Bulldogs 5‑1 in a dominant performance that capped a historic season and validated the groundwork laid years earlier.
Beyond the ice, the program has become a pipeline to professional hockey, with alumni such as Kahlen Lamarche, Melissa Samoskevich and T.T. Cianfarano appearing in the Professional Women’s Hockey League, while the team’s success has inspired a new generation of female players in Connecticut, including the daughters of assistant coach Amanda Alessi.
