Ten-year-old Raylan Fox steps onto the ice with a purpose that goes beyond the scoreboard, carrying the memory of his older brother Mason, who lost his fight against leukemia in 2024.
A Brother's Legacy on the Ice
Mason Fox, a talented defenseman who began playing at age five, was already being scouted by the Tampa Bay Crunch when his battle with cancer intensified, illustrating the family's deep roots in the sport.
In response to Mason's wish to bring joy to hospitalized children, his family launched the Smile Like Mason Fox Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness, funding research, and delivering toys to pediatric patients.
This September, Raylan's own hockey team joins the broader Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month observance by adorning gold shoelaces and using a specially marked gold puck during games, a visual tribute that honors Mason's memory while drawing attention to the cause.
Leslie Fox, Raylan's mother, watches proudly as her son continues to honor his brother's memory through every shift, face‑off and charitable effort, embodying the foundation's ongoing mission to support children battling cancer.
