Stuart Country Day School Field Hockey Team Seeks Momentum After Slow Start

Coach Missy Bruvik and a youthful roster lean on versatility and determination as they prepare for a key match at South Hunterdon High

Stuart Country Day School’s field hockey team entered the season with a 0-2 start after opening losses to Steinert High and WW/P-North, a result that reflects the steep learning curve faced by a roster reduced to just 13 players following the graduation of nine seniors.

Coach Missy Bruvik has praised the squad’s unwavering commitment, noting that every member has attended preseason practices without exception, a dedication that she says is essential as the team navigates a transitional year.

Versatility has become a cornerstone of the Tartans’ strategy; with limited numbers, players are required to fill multiple positions, a challenge that the coach says will sharpen their adaptability and depth throughout the fall.

Among the emerging leaders, junior midfielder Alex Janiszewski is expected to drive the midfield, while junior goalkeeper Karina Hannawacker has already made an impact, recording 20 saves against North and eight against Steinert High, showcasing the experience she brings despite her youth.

The forward line, featuring juniors Elaina Ryan, Zoe McDonald, Ellery Badros and sophomore Ava Teti, along with senior Betsy Murphy, provides a blend of youthful energy and seasoned poise that the team hopes will translate into improved performance.

Looking Ahead

The Tartans are slated to play their next contest at South Hunterdon High on September 10, a venue that will test their growing cohesion and determination as they aim to turn the early deficit into a winning streak.
