The final game of the 28th season of Challenger Baseball Grand Junction brought together athletes, volunteers and Junior College World Series players for a celebration of inclusion.
A Season of Inclusion
Since its inception the program has provided a structured baseball experience for nearly 100 players spread across eight teams, each paired with volunteer buddies from local schools and visiting squads.
Community Support Drives the Program
Organizers credit the sustained operation to a network of community donations, volunteer coaches and partnerships that keep the fields lit and the equipment ready.
Voices from the Field
Kelli Hamilton, Co‑Director of Challenger Baseball Grand Junction, emphasized that the league does more than teach baseball; it gives children a chance to demonstrate their abilities and build independence.
The closing ceremony also served as a platform for volunteers to reflect on the personal rewards of mentorship, noting how the experience enriches both the players and the buddies who guide them.
Looking Forward
Program leaders hope to expand participation and deepen ties with regional schools, ensuring that the inclusive spirit continues to ripple through the Grand Junction community.
