Makuei Riek Commits to University of Evansville
Makuei Riek, a 6‑foot‑6 guard who previously starred at Salt Lake Community College, has officially committed to the University of Evansville men’s basketball program, adding a versatile scoring option for the Purple Aces.
During his last season at Salt Lake Community College, Riek averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three‑point range, and he also posted an 87.5 percent free‑throw rate.
Coach Ragland’s Praise
Coach David Ragland highlighted Riek’s scoring ability, basketball IQ and defensive versatility, noting that the guard can stretch the floor and guard multiple positions.
Before his junior‑college stint, Riek played 20 games as a freshman at Fairfield University, where he reached a season‑high 13 points against Yale and earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors.
Riek said he chose Evansville because of the coaching staff and the program’s culture, describing the school as a place where he can develop both on and off the court.
The addition of Riek is expected to bolster the Purple Aces’ backcourt depth as they look to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference, bringing a blend of size, shooting and experience that could translate into immediate impact.
