Portland may soon host a new professional women's soccer venture, as the Portland Hearts of Pine explore the possibility of playing their matches in the city next season.
Under a proposal being discussed with municipal officials, the team would schedule 33 games at Fitzpatrick Stadium, with 25 of those contests reserved for the existing men's side and the remaining eight earmarked for the newly proposed women's squad.
City leaders are slated to review the lease amendment at a forthcoming council meeting, a step that could clear the way for the arrangement if approval is granted.
Lease negotiations take shape
The discussion centers on adjusting the stadium’s usage agreement to accommodate the increased game load, a move that reflects growing interest in expanding women's sports within the region.
If the council gives the green light, the arrangement would not only boost the schedule of the Hearts of Pine but also reinforce Portland’s commitment to supporting both men's and women's soccer at the pre‑professional level.
The proposal comes amid a broader push to enhance athletic facilities and provide more competitive opportunities for local teams, signaling a potential shift in how the city allocates its sports resources.
