The Toledo baseball team delivered a commanding 8‑0 victory over Kent State in the second round of the Mid‑American Conference Tournament, securing a spot in the championship series.
The Rockets exploded for two runs in the opening inning and added four more in the fifth, pulling away from the Golden Flashes.
A dominant pitching performance
Starting pitcher Michael Fliss turned in a masterful seven‑inning outing, surrendering just one hit while striking out eight batters, a performance that left Head Coach Rob Reinstetle praising the team’s focus and execution.
Reliever Ryan Hughes closed out the final two frames without allowing a run, sealing the shutout.
The game’s start was held up by more than two hours because the preceding contest went into extra innings, but once play resumed the Rockets were relentless.
Championship outlook
With the win, Toledo will now face Northern Illinois on Friday, May 22, in a showdown that could decide the conference champion.
Key contributors at the plate included Liam Arsich, who drove in two runs and scored twice, Troy Sudbrook with an RBI and a run, and Charlie Scholvin, who added an RBI and two runs.
Fliss also improved to 5‑0 in his last six starts, having recorded 47 strikeouts over 34 innings in that stretch.
