The Wake Tech Eagles celebrated a landmark achievement on Tuesday as they captured the program’s first NJCAA Region 10 Division II baseball championship, downing Brunswick Community College 12–8 in a decisive contest.
A Historic Milestone for the Program
The victory not only marked the team’s inaugural regional title but also cemented a 16–2 stretch since April 11, propelling the Eagles to a season record of 31–22 and a top‑tier national standing.
What made the triumph even more remarkable was the rapid turnaround against Brunswick. Just a day after an earlier loss, Wake Tech reversed the outcome and secured a double‑header sweep within 24 hours, underscoring the squad’s resilience.
Head Coach DJ Russ, along with assistants Matt Ellsworth and Rhett James, guided the team through a demanding schedule, while Athletic Director Robin Pate praised the players for excelling both on the diamond and in the classroom.
Pate highlighted the program’s commitment to a balanced student‑athlete experience, noting that the championship reflects the institution’s broader mission of academic excellence paired with athletic ambition.
The Eagles will now travel to David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma, where the NJCAA World Series is slated to begin on May 23. Their seeding, opponent and game time will be announced in the coming weeks.
