The American Football League Europe (AFLE) has begun its inaugural season, opening with matches in Vienna and London that mark the first live broadcasts of the new competition.
A High‑Tech Production Model
Central to the league’s rollout is a partnership with DMC Production Germany, which will oversee the production of 36 games across six countries, employing a sophisticated multi‑camera workflow and end‑to‑end uncompressed signal handling.
The production model relies on a modern OB truck fleet and remote venue kits, delivering footage in 1080i50 quality while maintaining a 10‑camera core setup complemented by specialty cameras for dynamic coverage.
Moritz Heisler, the league’s Managing Director and COO, stresses that the collaboration with DMC is designed to set new standards for broadcast excellence, a sentiment echoed by Holger Enßlin, Managing Director of DMC Production Germany, who highlights the importance of scalable production approaches.
Teams such as Rhein Fire, the Vienna Vikings and Berlin Thunder are slated to compete, and the league’s founders envision a future where European audiences enjoy American football presented with the same production polish as domestic leagues.
The successful test match in Vienna, praised for its technical execution, demonstrates that the hybrid on‑site and remote workflow can meet the demands of a trans‑national schedule, positioning AFLE as a pioneer in cross‑border sports broadcasting.
