Tim Bezbatchenko, the former president of the Columbus Crew, is making his way back to Ohio with a new mandate that stretches beyond a single club.
In his capacity as president of global soccer for Haslam Sports Group, he will steer the organization’s expanding footprint in the sport, including the launch of an NWSL franchise slated for 2028.
Bezbatchenko’s résumé includes two MLS Cup championships and a run to the CONCACAF Champions Cup final during his tenure with the Crew, achievements that have earned him a reputation as a builder of winning cultures.
A Strategic Homecoming
He will report directly to Dee and Jimmy Haslam, the owners of Haslam Sports Group, and will work alongside Issa Tall, who is expected to remain in his role as general manager.
The move signals a coordinated push to deepen investment in both domestic and international soccer, a strategy that aligns with the group’s long‑term vision for growth.
Industry observers note that the appointment comes at a time when Major League Soccer is expanding its women’s league and when clubs are seeking stronger ties to global talent pipelines.
Bezbatchenko’s return is being framed as a home‑grown solution, leveraging his deep connections in Ohio and his experience on the international stage.
