The spring sports calendar in the Yakima Valley is in full swing, with six high school softball squads, the Wapato boys soccer team and several tennis squads gearing up for state‑level competition.
Softball Showdowns Across the Valley
Matches are slated for Saturday morning at Richland’s Gateway complex, where the Class 4A showdown between West Valley and Issaquah will open at 9 a.m., followed by a series of Class 2A contests that pit Archbishop Murphy against East Valley and Selah against Ridgefield. Later in the day, the 2B bracket will see Cle Elum take on Pe Ell/Willapa Valley and Kittitas face Coupeville, while a 1B matchup between an unnamed team and Sunnyside Christian is set for 1 p.m.
Soccer Extends Its Season
In Wenatchee, the Class 1A boys soccer tournament will see Wapato square off against Cashmere at 3 p.m., a game that promises a late‑afternoon clash of regional rivals.
Tennis Courts Light Up
Tennis action is unfolding simultaneously in Yakima, Seattle and Kennewick, where the state tournament circuit is using the facilities of the Yakima Tennis Club and other local venues to host competition.
