Chris Hart Takes the Helm of NC State Baseball

After 22 years as an assistant, the longtime coach steps into the top role, bringing a legacy of excellence and a vision for the future.

A New Era for Wolfpack Baseball

Chris Hart, a veteran of NC State baseball for more than two decades, has been appointed the 17th head coach of the program, succeeding the legendary Elliott Avent, who retired after a storied career.

Hart’s journey with the Wolfpack spans 22 seasons, during which he served in multiple capacities, most recently as Avent’s trusted right‑hand man for the past 11 years.

Recognized nationally for his coaching acumen and recruiting expertise, Hart earned Baseball America’s National Assistant Coach of the Year honor in 2021 and helped guide NC State to top‑five recruiting classes in 2011, 2012 and 2024.

In his introductory remarks, Hart expressed deep gratitude to Avent, athletic director Boo Corrigan and university officials, while also acknowledging the unwavering support of Wolfpack Nation.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Hart emphasized that NC State’s baseball program rests on a solid historical foundation and a culture of excellence that he intends to preserve and elevate.

He highlighted the importance of developing players both on and off the field, and of competing at the highest level of collegiate baseball.

The timing of his official takeover remains fluid, as the team currently hovers on the edge of a regional postseason bid, adding a sense of urgency to the upcoming season.

Hart concluded by stating his eagerness to collaborate with the athletic department, including Ray Tanner, and to continue the tradition of success that has defined NC State baseball for generations.
