Alexa Hocevar Returns Home to Strengthen Cleveland State Women’s Basketball

The 6‑foot‑1 guard brings hometown roots and a proven track record to the Vikings' roster

Cleveland State University has announced the signing of Alexa Hocevar, a 6‑foot‑1 guard from Willoughby Hills, Ohio, to its 2026‑27 women's basketball roster. The move brings a local product back to the Horizon League, where she hopes to extend her collegiate career while contributing to the program's growing momentum.

A Familiar Path

Hocevar first made a name at West Geauga High School, where she surpassed 1,000 career points and earned Conference MVP and First Team All‑District honors. Her parents, both Cleveland State alumni, watched her develop on the court and in the classroom, laying a foundation that would later attract interest from Toledo and Indiana University‑Indianapolis.

After two seasons at IU Indy, where she averaged 8.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game as a sophomore, Hocevar transferred to Toledo. In her junior year she appeared in 26 games, posting 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Those experiences have prepared her for the next step at Cleveland State.

Coach Dunn's Vision

Head coach Bob Dunn described Hocevar as a fierce competitor, dedicated student and impact player in the Horizon League. He highlighted her work ethic and the influence of her family's basketball legacy as qualities that align with the program's culture.

Hocevar said she chose Cleveland State because of Dunn's genuine care for his players and the opportunity to finish her college career close to home. She hopes to build on her previous stints and help the Vikings contend for conference success.
