2028 Kansas High School Basketball Tournament Consolidates Championships in Wichita

All semifinal and final games will be staged within the Wichita metro area for the first time since 1945

Wichita to Host 2028 Kansas High School Basketball Championships

The 2028 KSHSAA State Basketball Tournament will be held entirely in the Wichita area for the first time, consolidating semifinal and final games across six classifications at three venues.

Koch Arena at Wichita State University, the Heartland Federal Credit Union Arena in Park City, and the Garvey Center at Friends University will host the championship round, while the Hutchinson Sports Arena at Hutchinson Community College will handle the Class 2A tournaments.

Executives said the shift responds to member schools’ desire for fewer sites, allowing fans to travel less and experience multiple games in a single trip.

KSHSAA Executive Director Bill Faflick said the new format lets supporters watch the best teams chase the ultimate prize without long journeys.

Josh Howell, vice president of sports development at Visit Wichita, expressed pride in welcoming the championships to the region and highlighted the logistical benefits.

The distribution of classes among the venues will be announced later, and ticket details and schedules are slated for release as the event approaches.

Opening‑round games will continue to use the same locations that served the 2026 and 2027 tournaments, including sites in Kansas City, Emporia, Dodge City and others.
