A Narrow Defeat in the Southern Conference Tournament
The Wofford Terriers saw their 2026 baseball campaign close with a 9-8 defeat to Mercer in the Southern Conference tournament, ending a season that finished at 34-22.
Mercer struck first, plating two runs in the opening inning, but Wofford answered with a three-run burst in the second, taking a modest lead that would evaporate as the game progressed.
The turning point arrived in the sixth when the Terriers held a 7-4 advantage, only to watch Mercer rally with five runs over the final two innings, flipping the scoreboard and sealing the win.
Veteran right-hander Cullen Condon worked six innings, surrendering seven hits and four earned runs, while reliever Austin Laughlin closed out the game with three innings that yielded just two hits and three runs.
Offensively, Niko Brini paced the Terriers with a run scored on three hits and three RBI, and Logan Tribble added a run and three RBI despite finishing his college career with a .345 batting average.
Cade Collins contributed three runs on two hits, and sophomore Ben Timblin, who wrapped up his sophomore campaign with 53 runs on 57 hits, including eight doubles, six triples and 16 home runs, drove in 64 RBI.
Other seniors such as Lucas Manning, Raul Feliz and Tanner Hardin each recorded a run and an RBI, while Hunter Herndon, Brady Gold, Chris Katz and Andrew Mannelly also saw action in the final contest.
The loss underscored a season of promise and near misses, leaving the program with a wealth of talent and a foundation for future success.
