The Philadelphia Catholic League baseball championship concluded with La Salle edging Conwell-Egan 7-6 in a tightly contested final that showcased resilience and timely hitting.
A Late Surge Seals the Title
La Salle’s junior Alex Hisem entered in relief and retired the first eight batters he faced, establishing early dominance on the mound, while Brycen Clarke’s three-run homer in the sixth inning shifted the momentum decisively in the Flyers’ favor.
The Eagles had taken an early 1-0 lead when senior Dan Freitag’s triple plated a run, followed by Brady Guzzie’s RBI groundout, but Conwell-Egan narrowed the gap in the seventh when Guzzie’s two-run homer cut the deficit to a single run, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
In the fourth inning, La Salle’s Keegan Wade doubled down the right-field line to take the lead, and the team extended the advantage further when Caden Schmidt’s home run and three RBIs in the semifinal against Neumann-Goretti added depth to their lineup.
A Milestone Victory
The triumph marks La Salle’s fifth PCL baseball championship in eight years, underscoring a sustained program resurgence, while Conwell-Egan’s search for its first league title since 2006 remains unfulfilled, leaving fans eager to see how the Eagles will respond next season.
