Auburn University is preparing to allocate almost $9.1 million toward the 2026 compensation of its freshly assembled assistant coaching staff under head coach Alex Golesh. The investment reflects a strategic push to attract top talent across the program’s defensive and offensive units.
Salary Hierarchy Among Coordinators
At the apex of the pay scale, defensive coordinator DJ Durkin will earn $2.7 million for the 2026 season, making him the highest‑paid assistant on the roster. Offensive coordinator Joel Gordon follows with a $1 million salary, underscoring the program’s emphasis on balanced expertise.
The remaining assistants are slated to receive between $400,000 and $700,000 annually. This range includes a variety of specialized roles, from defensive line coaching to edge rush development, each contributing to the overall defensive scheme.
Contract Adjustments and Notable Increases
Several staff members received significant raises ahead of the 2026 season. Defensive line coach Vontrell King‑Williams, who earned $500,000 the previous year, saw his compensation jump to $650,000, reflecting a six‑figure increase that aligns with his expanded responsibilities.
Other coordinators also secured sizable contracts: Kodi Burns and Tyler Hudanick will each make $700,000, while Tim Banks, the co‑defensive coordinator and safeties coach, is set for $500,000. Larry Porter, the running backs coach, will earn $475,000, and Larry Scott, the tight ends coach, $450,000. Coleman Hutzler and Brad Wilson round out the group with $400,000 apiece.
These figures illustrate a comprehensive compensation strategy that rewards experience, specialization, and projected impact. By distributing funds across a broad spectrum of roles, Auburn aims to build a cohesive staff capable of elevating the program’s competitiveness in the coming season.
