A New Era for IMG Academy Basketball
Jackson Johnson, the former head coach of the boys basketball team at The Newman School in Boston, has accepted the top position at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, succeeding Sean McAloon, who retired after a nine‑year tenure that produced a 193‑60 record.
During his four years at Newman, Johnson steered the Cardinals to multiple championships and amassed 38 victories, establishing himself as one of the most successful preparatory‑school coaches in New England.
A Legacy of Success
Justin Perron, who has been an assistant under Johnson, will assume the head‑coaching duties at Newman, ensuring continuity for the program he helped build.
Before entering coaching, Johnson distinguished himself as a point guard at Tulane University, where he remains the school’s all‑time leader in assists and steals, and he honed his skills on the courts of Ponte Vedra, Florida.
IMG Academy, a leading sports‑education brand founded in 1978, combines on‑campus training with online curricula to guide student‑athletes toward college placement and professional opportunities.
The Ascenders, a recent standout team that finished 21‑9 last season and earned a No. 6 ranking in Florida, exemplify the competitive environment Johnson will inherit, setting the stage for a promising new chapter.
