Lawrence University announced this week that Pete Curtis, a 2004 alumnus and longtime assistant, will take over as head coach of the Bulldogs football program, succeeding John Hersom who departed for a similar role at Bangor.
Curtis, who graduated from Lawrence in 2004 and began his coaching career at Maine Maritime Academy, has served as an assistant for the Bulldogs since 2009, working under head coaches Brad Bishop and Scott Walker before joining the staff of David Packard, the school’s athletic director.
A Proven Track Record
During his decade on the sidelines, Curtis played a pivotal role in the team’s 2023 Class B North championship, a milestone that highlighted his ability to develop talent and maintain a competitive edge.
Continuity and Collaboration
Curtis has said he intends to keep much of Hersom’s coaching staff intact, retaining assistants Ken Lindlof, Jason Pellerin and Jesse Dodge, a move he believes will preserve the chemistry that underpinned the recent success.
Beyond the field, Curtis works as a product manager at Huhtamaki in Waterville and lives in Albion with his wife and five children, balancing professional responsibilities with family life.
Lawrence enters the upcoming season with most of its roster returning, including a strong core that finished the previous year as the No. 3 seed in Class B North with a 5‑5 record, positioning the Bulldogs for a promising campaign under Curtis’s leadership.
