A New Chapter for Trenton Hockey
The Trenton Ironhawks, a freshly minted professional franchise, have formalized an ECHL affiliation with the New York Islanders, a partnership that marks the return of top‑level hockey to the New Jersey capital.
Their inaugural home contest is slated for Oct. 24 at CURE Insurance Arena, a venue overseen by Oak View Group, the same organization that programs the Islanders’ other facilities, including UBS Arena and TD Coliseum.
Islanders General Manager Mathieu Darche voiced enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the value of giving prospects a nearby proving ground for fans who want to follow the development path without traveling far.
Mercer County Executive Dan Benson hailed the agreement as a win for the region, noting the city’s passionate fan base and its storied hockey pedigree, which includes earlier clubs such as the Trenton Titans and Trenton Devils.
