Tavares Harrington, a four-star cornerback out of Chicago’s Mount Carmel High School, announced his commitment to the University of Michigan on Wednesday, pledging to join the Wolverines’ 2027 recruiting class.
His pledge marks the second time this month that a Mount Carmel product has chosen Michigan, following wide receiver Quentin Burrell’s earlier decision, underscoring the school’s growing pipeline to Ann Arbor.
Ranked as the seventh-best player in Illinois and the 124th overall prospect nationwide by 247 Sports, Harrington also holds the 15th spot among cornerbacks, a rating that has drawn attention from analysts tracking the defensive backfield’s future.
Building a Defensive Backfield
Harrington joins two other defensive backs already pledged to Michigan’s 2027 cohort — four-star Darius Johnson and legacy recruit Charles Woodson Jr., the son of a former Wolverines legend.
The trio is expected to bolster a secondary that has been a focal point of the program’s recent recruiting efforts, potentially reshaping the team’s defensive schemes in the coming years.
A Class on the Rise
With Harrington’s addition, Michigan’s 2027 class now stands at 14 commitments, placing the group 11th nationally and fifth within the Big Ten, a climb that reflects the program’s strategic outreach and the appeal of its academic and athletic environment.
Coaches and recruiting analysts alike note that the class’s composition — mixing size, speed, and experience — could position Michigan as a contender for top-tier bowl appearances and future conference titles.
