Saturday, May 23, will see the Section 1 flag football championships unfold at Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, New York, bringing together the top teams from Class A, B and C in a bid for state tournament berths.
The day’s slate features three title games, each pitting the highest‑seeded squads against formidable challengers: the Class A showdown between No. 1 Scarsdale and No. 3 Mamaroneck at 10:30 a.m., the Class B clash of No. 1 Tappan Zee and No. 2 Yorktown at 1 p.m., and the Class C finale starring No. 1 Westlake/Briarcliff against No. 7 Byram Hills at 3:30 p.m.
Title‑Game Matchups
Scarsdale enters the Class A final chasing its third straight Section 1 crown and riding the momentum of a state championship earned last season, while Tappan Zee aims to defend its back‑to‑back Section 1 titles and return to the state final.
The tournament’s recent history adds extra intrigue: in 2025 Scarsdale captured the Class A banner, Tappan Zee won Class B, and Hendrick Hudson claimed Class C, while a year earlier Lakeland took Division I and Brewster secured Division II.
A Look Back
Winners from each class will advance to the New York State tournament, continuing a pathway that has produced memorable runs for teams across the section.
