Returning to Roots
Former Norwalk High School football players returned to their hometown this week, stepping onto the gym floor of West Rocks Middle School to share their stories with a new generation of athletes.
Sebastian Pierre, a recent Wake Forest graduate who anchored the offensive line for the Demon Deacons, joined forces with Mysonne Pollard, who earned a spot in a Tennessee Titans rookie camp, Cam Edwards, a standout running back at Michigan State University, and Drew Buckley, a former University of Connecticut standout.
The quartet, who turned down scholarship offers from private high schools, explained that staying in Norwalk allowed them to give back to the community that shaped them, and they highlighted the value of mentorship.
Pierre, who will soon begin a consulting role at Deloitte in Washington, D.C., opened up about battling imposter syndrome, stressing that perseverance and a solid academic foundation were key to navigating uncertainty.
The group underscored the importance of balancing athletics with academics, reminding the middle schoolers that good grades open doors just as much as talent on the field.
After a series of drills and one‑on‑one conversations, the players encouraged the students to chase their dreams regardless of background, insisting that role models can be found right in their own neighborhood.
