Cory Truscott, a lifelong hockey enthusiast and memorabilia collector, recently shipped a treasured card of John Garrett to the commentator himself, hoping for a signature that would complete a personal collection.
A Quiet Tribute Across Generations
The gesture was rooted in a meeting that took place roughly three decades earlier, when Truscott attended a Vancouver Canucks alumni gathering and was struck by Garrett’s warm, approachable demeanor.
Garrett, who had built a reputation for his friendly nature, never got the chance to sign the card; he passed away before the card could be returned with his autograph.
Instead, Garrett’s daughter Sarah took the initiative, sending the unsigned card back to Truscott along with a handwritten note that conveyed both sympathy and appreciation for the collector’s devotion.
The unsigned card now carries a different kind of value for Truscott, who has spent years amassing autographs and rare items, finding in this piece a story that transcends mere statistics.
