Lightning Re-sign Sabourin to One-Year Deal

Veteran forward returns for another season, bringing experience and physicality

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced the re-signing of forward Scott Sabourin to a one-year, two-way contract, keeping the 33-year-old veteran in the organization for another season.

Sabourin appeared in 26 games for the Lightning last year, contributing a goal and five points, and added two playoff appearances, marking his first Stanley Cup playoff experience.

A veteran’s return to the fold

The forward ranked third on the team in penalty minutes with 89, underscoring his physical presence and willingness to engage in the gritty areas of the game.

Having logged 73 NHL games across four franchises — the Lightning, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks — Sabourin brings a wealth of experience to a roster that is looking to build on recent successes.

General manager Julien BriseBois highlighted the value of Sabourin’s leadership and versatility, noting that his familiarity with the organization’s culture will be a factor as the club aims for another deep playoff run.

The contract was officially filed on July 13, 2025, after Sabourin originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Kings in 2013 and made his NHL debut with Ottawa on October 2, 2019.

Off the ice, Sabourin will continue to split his time between the NHL and the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch, where he appeared in 24 games during the 2025‑26 season, maintaining his readiness for any call-up.
